And yet somehow the trend is catching up instead of dying.
It started when Apple ditched the headphone jacks in iPhone 7, which by the way was not very well received.
Considering that regardless of this issue, iPhone 7 was sold without the slightest decline, people don’t find a headphone jack to be a deal breaker.
For a while, no company followed suit, but then it became the new thing.
And when such a radical change is made, there is supposed to be some compensation.
After all this time there has been none.
So here are some of the reasons that this frustrating new trend should be dropped:
Headphone jacks removal is pointless when it comes to the phone body.
It has next to no effect on how the phone looks or feel.
Take iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s for instance.
While they have the same body measures, the difference in their weight is negligible.
All the jack-less phones feel the same as the phones before them.
They are only a little more inconvenient in usage than the others.
The argument is that removal of headphone jacks makes the phones slim and waterproof.
These people probably should take a look at the Essential phone that has a thick enough body and doesn’t know how to swim.
Then there is a point with the bigger battery, which does validate iPhone 7 since it lasts a tad longer than the others, as for other phones not so much.
While we have Samsung S8 or OnePlus 5, with a proud headphone jack and can easily outlast any of these phones very easily.
Evolution of smartphones went the wrong direction.
This is how it usually happens.
You had floppy discs; technology happened, now you have USB devices.
Old things are replaced with something easier and superior.
While when we look at this particular change, we see the water flowing in the wrong direction.
Instead of it going from having to use an unseemly dongle to use your headphone to using the headphones directly connecting to the phone, it has been just the opposite.
Then some headphones connect to the charging port.
But are not just rare but also very short-lived.
The ones that are widely available are no longer of any use.
Dongles are annoying
They are just not the most elegant things.
They make phones look cheap, and you always have to be careful not to lose them.
Innovation is supposed to lessen the friction and make processes seamless.
Using an ugly dongle certainly, doesn’t do that.
Bluetooth Headphone is not the answer.
This does sound like a superior option, doesn’t it?
Only that it has its baggage.
As if we don’t have enough to worry about with our short-lived iPhone batteries, now we have to also worry about the charging of the headphones.
They can die anytime, anywhere even when your phone doesn’t.
This can be overlooked if their performance was outstanding, which isn’t always.
They lose connection very quickly and you always have to close to the course just as if you were wearing headphones with the chord.
And as for the Airpods, you only get one pair.
Once you lose it, it’s gone.
You can buy a new phone with the money you will need to buy an extra pair.
A much less reliable and more costly alternative.
Not having headphone jacks is not a deal breaker for many people.
But while it may not be such a big issue, it’s sure is problematic.
And if companies are not planning to take a step back then they should at least do something to make this transition easier.
