With less than 24 hours left in the release of the overhyped iPhone X, the Samsung CEO talks about the records of Galaxy Note 8 pre-orders and folding phones!
Did DJ Koh do it deliberately? Obviously.
What better way to undermine the competition than using its spot light against it?
But then again is it really stealing when the new iPhone is nothing but the follow up of the trends originally set by Samsung itself, that include edge-to-edge screen, OLED (supplied by none other than Samsung itself) and the facial recognition.
Seems like Samsung has it all figured out.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Was an Amazing Success!
The Phoenix Note 8 that rose from the ashes of Note 7 seems to be as relentless as ever.
Despite the Note 7 fiasco, Samsung has been overloaded with the pre-orders of Galaxy Note 8.
As Koh proudly said
“The initial response from around 40 overseas markets including the US and Europe is very encouraging,” Koh said. “We have confirmed unchanged love and support for the Note series.”
The Samsung CEO also informed that 650,000 Korean customers alone pre-ordered Galaxy Note 8 that is expected to hit 800,000 by the time it goes up on sale on September 15.
That’s twice as many as Note 5 got during the same time duration.
The Next Leap
While Apple is busy playing catch up, Samsung seems to have its next tech leap all planned out.
As reported, Samsung seems to have some really “clear roadmaps for the innovation of its smartphones”.
And this roadmap apparently includes “foldable display” that Samsung has been working on for a while.
Koh says that there have been some limitation and hurdles in achieving the perfect results, but they are working hard on it.
The device will be ready to hit the market by the next year, says Koh.
What are these hurdles?
As far as a good guess goes, the hurdles Koh mentioned could mean the mass production of these foldable phones.
These phones require a flexible plastic film that is essential for flexible displays.
This plastic film is known as “polyimide film” and there is only one manufacturer known to produce this material known as Kolon Industries.
And word has it that they will not be able to produce any before January 2018 which pushes the lead time further back for Samsung.
So is it for real this time?
Over the time there have been many rumors about Samsung releasing a foldable phone, although it never really turned into reality.
But this time you have it straight from the lion’s mouth exclusively.
And now that Koh himself is not only telling us but is giving a time frame, it means that Samsung has the little puzzle all figured out.
Although it is still not clear whether there this phone will be a part of Galaxy Note series or Galaxy S series, it is quite clear that it will not have a new series of its own.
