The cycle goes like “iPhone X is amazing!” to “iPhone X is crazy expensive” for everyone.
Then they end up with either “Let’s buy it anyway” or “Can’t afford it, bruh!”
There have been mixed feelings about Apple’s most expensive phone yet, iPhone X.
But there is no doubt that the overlook of the phone is a winner! Especially when coupled with the new features, it wins you over.
It is the price that creates doubt in your mind, after all, there is nothing in this phone that hasn’t been offered before.
So if you are on a budget you may want to consider the following alternatives:
Elephone S8 ($279)
Of all the affordable bezel-less phone, telephone S8 stands out.
It has the highest PPI (pixel per inch) with a Quad HD display.
It runs on the Helio X25 dec-core processor, which by the way is the best in the bunch.
It runs on a very clean version of Android 7.0, has a 4 GB RAM and 64GB storage with an option for a memory card.
And the overall performance is pretty good.
The camera is as good as one can expect from such a phone and then there is the awkward tray that works horizontally instead of vertically.
Leagoo KIICAA Mix ($90)
Even with the 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, the price of this phone is amazingly low.
It has a plastic back, and the volume rockers are not exactly as stiff as they should be.
But who can complain about that when you get a bezel-less screen at a price almost 1/10th of iPhone X.
With the bezel-less 5.5-inch screen, KIICAA Mix is so much easier to handle than iPhone 6/7/8.
It’s pretty amazing that a local Chinese company could trim the bezels for such a tiny phone and iPhone couldn’t.
The software isn’t as clean as one might like as it is stored in a custom skin yet it is still too good for a phone at this price.
The 13 MP camera is as good as it can be and to be honest looks fine on the Instagram where you can only view them.
You won’t want to see them on a bigger screen though, that’s where it may get a little ugly.
Then again, even just viewable is a lot to expect from a phone that costs only 90 bucks.
Maze Alpha ($170)
Probably the best all-rounder you can get in this price range, Maze Alpha.
It has a clean Android version free of any kind of skin, thankfully.
The camera is pretty decent too, especially in broad daylight.
In low light though, the pictures are rather murky and filled with noise.
Also, there is a “nice try” version of bokeh effect that it did not quite pull off.
The battery is amazing! The 4,000 mAh makes you happy.
And as for the performance, it is overall good too.
Although some apps like Instagram (gasp!) crash at times but it’s no big deal since it also happens in Samsung too.
You don’t have to pay $999 for something you can have at so much cheaper rate.
